Odeceixe
Odeceixe is a small hillside village by the Seixe River valley, regarded as one of the finest examples of a traditional village in the Algarve. Its winding cobbled streets and small whitewashed houses, adorned with vivid blue and yellow tones, define its character. The windmill is another emblematic feature of Algarvian villages, and in Odeceixe, it sits just above the village centre. When visiting, take time to wander the quiet streets, explore at a leisurely pace, and embrace the slow pace of southern Portuguese life.
Aljezur
Aljezur is a 10th-century village located within the Natural Park of the Vicentine Coast and Southwest Alentejo, notable for its Moorish origins. Here, you can explore a maze of narrow cobbled streets, typical row houses, and landmarks such as the Misericórdia Church. The village features a unique blend of Christian and Muslim architectural influences, including an old quarter built on a hillside facing inland, cascading down from the ruins of the Moorish castle.
Pedralva
Pedralva is a small, picturesque village that was once almost entirely abandoned. It has since been transformed into a “village-hotel,” where most houses have been restored while maintaining the traditional architecture and preserving their original features and façades. The village consists of only three streets, lined with small whitewashed row houses featuring soft-coloured windows and doors. When visiting, you can sense its stillness and quiet, as it feels detached from the rushing outside world.
Ferragudo
Ferragudo is one of the region’s most picturesque fishing villages, situated on a hill by the Arade River, across from Portimão. The village is characterised by a beautiful silhouette of whitewashed townhouses that encircle the hillside, leading up to a church with a prominent bell tower. Here, you are encouraged to wander its narrow, winding cobbled streets decorated with bougainvillea, and admire the views of fishing boats on the river.
