A Wine Tasting Overlooking Assisi

In front of Assisi’s Basilica of Saint Francis lies SaioAssisi, a family-owned wine estate offering a tasting experience steeped in local heritage, amidst 20 hectares of vineyards and olive groves.

This family-owned property welcomes guests who seek a taste of Umbria and a sense of place, amidst the region and its traditions.

The experience starts with an introduction to SAIO Assisi winery and wines, with a tasting of their different reds and whites. It is then followed by a walk through the vineyards, which face the basilica of St. Francis, a UNESCO Heritage Site.

Expressions of climate, soil and memory are poured with care and described with warm hospitality by the Mencarelli family.

With a map in hand, you are free to wander the estate’s vineyards and learn more about the wines and grapes along the paths. Informational panels accompany you along the way. While walking towards the SAIO pavilion, you get to admire the views of the city of Assisi closing in on you.

Right after the walk is finished, a thoughtfully prepared picnic with regional fare awaits. Bruschetta with SAIO extra virgin olive oil, pecorino cheese, caciotta cheese with black truffle, handmade Torta al Testo, local cured meats, Traditional Umbrian dessert, water, and a bottle of the SAIO Assisi wine of your choice conclude this exquisite activity.
