Alberobello
Alberobello is a village where a profound sense of history and culture remain preserved. Its historical center is renowned for its stone houses with conically shaped roofs, known as the trulli. Distinguished as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, these distinctive houses were once the residences of the poor, and many were later demolished to be replaced by modern dwellings. The historical center of Alberobello is comprised of the Rione Monti and the Rione Aia Piccola. Rione Monti is the largest trulli quarter, featuring narrow cobbled streets and touristic stores, whereas Rione Aia Piccola is a small neighbourhood with a calmer and more authentic atmosphere, with many inhabited trulli.
Locorotondo
Similarly to Alberobello, Locorotondo is characterized by its distinctive ‘cummerse’ buildings. The well-preserved historical centre is embellished with pitched roofs of limestone slabs, beautifully paved streets, and delightfully entangled alleyways adorned with colorful flowers and fresh vines. Picturesque stairways and quaint balconies overflow with flowers that cascade around the façades and doorways. Locorotondo is a hilltop village and its name reflects its circular form, where a maze of narrow streets lines up to reveal glimpses of the Itria Valley below.
Ostuni
Often called the ‘White City,’ Ostuni is one of the most emblematic Pugliese villages. Noticeably less crowded than Alberobello, while more visited than Locorotondo, Ostuni offers a well-balanced array of touristic and local, authentic stores. The historic centre is embraced by century-old walls, a labyrinth of narrow, winding streets, delightful squares, and historic churches. Inviting cafes, picturesque restaurants, and delightful bistros bring a vibrant atmosphere to the small piazzas and stairways, with the sea as a backdrop.
