Four Unmissable Stops in Sardinia
These four locations embody the tactile history and rooted identity of Sardinia. This is what makes them unmissable and why they belong in your itinerary.
Bosa
Bosa is a beautiful, sun-steeped old village characterised by rows of colourful pastel-hued houses, climbing a hillside below the Castello Malaspina ruins. The old district features a picturesque maze of narrow cobbled alleys decorated with flowers and all sorts of quirky items. While the town has its own sandy beach, the nearby natural swimming pool at Cane Malu makes for an excellent side trip. For parking, look for free street parking at Via delle Conce.
Castelsardo
A medieval town situated on a rocky promontory along the northern coast, surrounded by ancient stone walls. Castelsardo is a maze of narrow streets with pastel buildings that spiral up toward the ancient Doria Castle, which offers views of the Mediterranean. It is well-known for its local artisans, specifically older women who weave and sell handmade baskets from their doorsteps. A practical option for parking is the free open-air lot at Spalti Manganella.
Baunei Town
The central hub of the Baunei region, built near the top of a hillside with expansive views of the valley and southern coastline. The town centre is a quiet labyrinth of cobbled streets with limestone and whitewashed houses. Notable sites include the church of San Nicola di Bari and local shops selling artisanal products like ceramics and goat cheese. For parking, free street parking is available at the Via SS. Martiri lot.
Olbia
A city in the northeast that serves as a main entry point due to its airport. It features a laid-back, authentic rhythm with cobbled side streets and colourful façades adorned with flowers. The main thoroughfare, Corso Umberto I, offers various shops to explore. Convenient free parking is available at the Harbour Parking Lot.
